FAQs for SIU Today Article Submission
Please refer to the above checklist and the following FAQs to submit an article for SIU Today:
Q: What if my article has been previously published?
If your article has been previously published, you must disclose this at the time of submission. SIU Today generally does NOT publish articles that have been previously published. However, exceptions have been made to this rule, but the author must retain all rights, other than First North American publications rights. Also, the original publication and date must be noted in the article, should we choose your article as a re-print.
Q: What if I have a great idea but I am not comfortable writing the article myself?
If you have a great topic but are uncomfortable writing an article, please contact us and we may be able to assign a writer for your information.
Q: How is an article evaluated for SIU Today publication?
All submissions will be acknowledged via e-mail. Submissions are evaluated on originality of topic, relevance to our members, and soundness of content. Articles that essentially promote a particular company, product or service cannot be accepted, but articles that are written as a case study will be considered if the product and producer are included only in the author biography at the end of the article. We may accept your article outright, accept it for a staff rewrite or accept it contingent on your revision. All accepted articles are subject to editing for style, clarity, appropriate language, and length. Your writing style is your own and we make every attempt to preserve it as we prepare for publication. If we conclude your article is not suitable for SIU Today, we will explain the reason in an e-mail.
Q: What happens after my article is accepted for SIU Today publication?
Upon acceptance for publication, we tentatively assign your article to an issue, and we generally work three to six months in advance. Because each issue’s make-up depends on several factors, including advertising levels for the issue, the scheduling of an article is subject to change.
Q: Do I need my employer’s approval before submitting an article to SIU Today?
Employees of certain companies may need to obtain company approval of the article content before submitting to us. Please check with your company regarding their preferences prior to submitting to us. If necessary, please also inform us when you receive this employer approval.
Q: Why must I submit callouts and quiz questions?
Callout sentences help the publisher create visual highlights to draw readers to the main areas or key points of your article. We ask that you provide two to three callout sentences (or brief sections) that you feel capture the main ideas of your submission.
We also ask that you submit two to three quiz questions that readers should be able to answer after reading your article because many of our readers hold IASIU certifications and require continuing education (CE) credits. We use these questions as part of a quiz that readers can take after reading your article and grant CE credit based upon their performance.
You can simply provide these callouts and quiz questions in the email text portion with your submission. Thank you.
