We’re pleased to announce that the proposed bylaw change has passed. Article II Section 1B6 of the IASIU Constitution and Bylaws has been updated to add the Independent SIU Professional to the Associate Member category. As with all other Associate Member Types, this membership will not have voting rights. The language does not expand membership to people whose primary purpose is to conduct surveillance or other traditional PI work.

The language to the bylaws reads:

Independent SIU Professional. An individual who is employed by a company which is contracted with an insurance company, and whose primary purpose is the full-time investigation and/or supervision of insurance fraud investigations. The individual must be specifically designated as an Insurance Fraud Investigator or Special investigator. The individual and organization must be engaged in anti-fraud activities as defined by the IASIU Board of Directors and must be in conformance with the goals and objectives of the Association.

The individual shall provide written verification from their employer stating that the individual’s primary duties and responsibilities are SIU investigations. Should the condition of their employment and purpose change, the individual further agrees to immediately report the change to the Membership Committee and resign their IASIU membership.

We expect this membership to be available by the end of April and we will begin accepting applications at that time. This is a good change for IASIU and our industry. We’ll be reaching out to those former members who may qualify, but if you know someone who qualifies please let them know. We’re happy to welcome them, or in many cases welcome them back, to IASIU.

Kind regards,

Celeste Dodson
IASIU Vice President and Organizational Improvement Committee Chair
