Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?

I was born and raised in Nashville. After living in Las Vegas and Chicago, my wife and I finally got back to our roots in Nashville about nine years ago. We love Nashville!
Before working in your current position what did you do?

My first job out of undergrad was as a Criminal Investigator with the Nevada Attorney General's office in Las Vegas, investigating healthcare fraud and insurance fraud. While I loved the excitement of that job, I realized I wanted to move into the private sector and at the age of 26, I started in the SIU field. It was one of the best decisions I have made careerwise.
What advice do you have for prospective SIU candidates?

You never stop learning. Take the time to earn as many industry designations and certifications as you can. Become involved in various networking opportunities. If your employer offers tuition assistance, take advantage of it.

How long have you been a member of IASIU? How did you first get involved?

I've been a member of IASIU for the past 15 years. I first became involved in attending the local (Las Vegas) monthly meetings and eventually attended an annual seminar where it became my ambition to become more involved in the international association.

What are three career lessons you've learned thus far?

  1. Take responsibility for your own career development. Learn as much as you can about anything and everything related to insurance, not just SIU.
  2. Never burn a bridge. The SIU community is a small cohesive group, and everyone knows each other either directly or indirectly.
  3. Lastly, have a work life balance. I am extremely fortunate to work for a company and manager that values work-life balance. A happy employee is a motivated employee.

Tell us a little about your family?

This month, my wife and I celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary. We have three boys, ages 13, 10 and 6. Our boys are very active in golf, baseball and basketball.

David serves on the IASIU Board of Directors and also serves on the Awards, Constitution & Bylaws and Organizational Improvement committees.
