The Georgia Chapter of the International Association of Special Investigations Units will host its Annual Insurance Fraud Seminar on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the Kennesaw State University Continuing Education Center. Registration is now open.

Identity theft and data security are common stories in today’s news.  The Federal Trade Commission is the government entity with enforcement over such activity.  This course will go into the history of the FTC, the federal laws applicable to ID theft and data security as well as the FTC’s enforcement activities.  The presentation will also go into actual FTC cases dealing with identity theft and data security as well as tools that are available from the agency to help combat the crimes.

Insurance fraud is not just a claim problem! Suspicious and fraudulent activity may present at any time throughout the life of a policy, before a claim ever even presents. In light of the new era of low-touch and no-touch claim and policy processes the need for smarter use of data and better front end fraud detection is more important than ever. This presentation will discuss identifying potential suspicious activity at the time of quoting, policy inception and throughout the life of the policy. The course will provide red flags to be aware of, customer behaviors to understand and the data and partnerships that are essential to being effective in the underwriting space. Being in a position to identify exposures early puts you in a position to positively affect the book of business.

2:15 - 3:30              Historical Cell Phone Records in Investigations

                               Presented by: Anna Kotsovos, NICB

 

This course is designed for law enforcement investigators and insurance fraud investigators, whose duties require them to conduct investigations that may include access to and the analysis of cell phone or GPS records. The course will define what a call detail record (CDR) is, identify advantages and disadvantages to using CDRs, understand how to obtain CDRs, utilize different sources for seeking information regarding CDRs, understand mapping vs. communication analysis and evaluate the need for possible assistance from NICB
